Admin History: The Cheese Bureau was formed in 1955 to promote the sales of Cheddar and Cheshire cheese. The Cheese Bureau represented Commonwealth and U.K. cheese producers, whose dominant interest was in Cheddar and Cheshire cheese which accounted for approximately 80% of total cheese sales. Members included the New Zealand Dairy Production and marketing board, Australian Dairy Produce Board, Milk Marketing boards of England & Wales, Scotland, Ontario and Northern Ireland and the Cheese Board of Eire. The organisation existed solely for promotional purposes and had no sales force or staff of its own, apart from a small leaflet distributing and answering service run for it by JWT London. It appears that Cheese Bureau operations were wound up in 1972.
